MetroCard Choices
Pay-Per-Ride (Regular) MetroCard - $2 includes one free transfer from bus to bus, bus to subway or subway to bus if made within two hours of original boarding time. On Pay-Per-Ride MetroCard, an additional 15% is added to card with the purchase or addition of $7 or more. (Cost per ride would increase from $1.67 to $1.74.) Initial Pay-Per-Ride minimum purchase remains $4.00. Unlike the unlimited ride Fun Pass, you can pay for several fares at the same time (as long as there is money remaining on the card) and you can add money to your MetroCard at subway station vending machines or booths. CAUTION: If paying cash, try to use the dollar denomination closest to the amount you owe for your MetroCard. If you're buying a 1-Day Fun Pass for $7.50, insert a $10 bill in the MetroCard vending machine and it will place a $2.50 credit on your MetroCard. 1-Day Fun Pass - $7.50. This Unlimited Ride MetroCard permits you to hop on and off buses and subways as much as you like. You automatically activate the card on the date of your first use and it's valid until 3:00am the next day. It is not a 24 hour pass. Please note: you can use your card only once every 18 minutes at the same boarding location. 7-Day Unlimited Ride MetroCard - $25. If you're staying more than 3 consecutive days, it may be more economical to purchase this MetroCard. NEW 14-Day Unlimited Ride MetroCard - $47. Visitors planning to stay in the city more than 16 consecutive days will save with this choice of MetroCard. 30-Day Unlimited Ride MetroCard - $81. Visitors planning to stay in the city more than 18 consecutive days will save with this choice of MetroCard. Tokens are no longer accepted in subway station turnstiles or on buses. You may pay your fare with exact change (coins only) on buses. Subway turnstiles do not accept coins. Be aware that exact change customers on buses are limited to a free transfer to another bus - not to the subway. All subway station vending machines permit you to purchase your MetroCard with your credit or ATM card.
